Job Summary:
The Assistant Manager – Internal Auditor will assist in evaluating and enhancing the effectiveness of the organization’s internal control systems, risk management processes, and governance structures. This position plays a key role in performing internal audits, identifying areas of improvement, and ensuring that the organization is compliant with relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies. The Assistant Manager will work closely with senior management and internal audit teams to drive improvements and provide recommendations for enhancing operational efficiency and mitigating risks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Internal Audit Planning and Execution:
- Assist in the planning and execution of internal audits across various departments and functions within the organization.
- Develop audit plans based on risk assessments, focusing on high-risk areas and ensuring comprehensive coverage of all key operational areas.
- Conduct audits of financial, operational, and compliance processes to assess internal controls and identify weaknesses or inefficiencies.
- Risk Management and Control Assessments:
- Evaluate and assess the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management practices, and governance frameworks.
- Provide insights into areas where internal controls can be enhanced to mitigate risks.
- Identify potential operational, financial, and compliance risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Audit Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare detailed audit working papers and maintain accurate records of audit activities.
- Present audit findings, risks, and recommendations in clear, concise reports for management and other stakeholders.
- Work closely with management to ensure audit issues are understood, resolved, and action plans are implemented.
- Compliance and Regulatory Review:
- Ensure the organization’s activities comply with relevant regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies.
- Monitor any changes in relevant laws, regulations, and accounting standards that may impact internal controls and audit activities.
- Provide recommendations for improving compliance processes to meet industry and regulatory standards.
- Collaboration with Stakeholders:
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Finance, Risk, IT) to ensure effective risk management and control processes are in place.
- Assist in facilitating communication between internal audit, management, and external auditors, as needed.
- Support the senior internal audit team in managing relationships with external auditors and regulatory authorities.
- Follow-up on Audit Recommendations:
- Track the implementation of audit recommendations and action plans, ensuring timely resolution of identified issues.
- Perform follow-up audits to assess the effectiveness of corrective actions taken and the resolution of audit findings.
- Report on the status of audit findings and recommend any additional improvements as necessary.
- Team Leadership and Development:
- Assist in the mentorship and development of junior auditors, helping them build their skills and enhance their understanding of internal auditing practices.
- Provide guidance and support to team members during the audit process, ensuring that best practices and standards are maintained.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated on industry trends, auditing standards, and best practices.
- Recommend and implement process improvements within the internal audit function to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Actively participate in internal audits to ensure that audits are conducted in an efficient and effective manner.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certification(s) such as CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor), CPA (Certified Public Accountant), or equivalent certifications are preferred.
- Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in internal auditing, accounting, or related fields.
- Proven experience in conducting audits across financial, operational, and compliance areas.
- Experience working with internal audit software and tools.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of auditing principles, risk management practices, and internal control frameworks.
- Knowledge of IFRS, SOX compliance, and other relevant regulations and standards.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and familiarity with audit management software (e.g., ACL, TeamMate).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess complex situations and provide practical solutions.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively report findings and communicate with management.
- Ability to present audit findings clearly and succinctly to senior management.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple audits simultaneously and meet deadlines.
